Turkish people watched psychology-themed TV series in the 2020-2021 season!

The “Interaction of TV Series with Social Problems” research conducted by Estima Research, which aims to investigate the possible effects of psychological series on society in Turkey, shed light on the TV series watching habits of Turkish people in the 2020-2021 season. The data obtained by interviewing each SES group representing Turkey from 81 provinces revealed many findings about the situation of Turkish society and its relationship with TV.

Indispensable for Turkish people:Psychology-Themed TV Series

The results of the research reveal that 9 out of 10 people in Turkey regularly watch television, while 7 out of 10 people watch TV series. 90% of TV viewers say they like TV series that are about “real life stories”, mainly housewives between the ages of 45-54. TV series with the theme of “psychological issues”, which have increased their place on TV in recent years, draw attention with the attention of female viewers.

Kırmızı Oda with 46%, Masumlar Apartmanı with 42%, and Camdaki Kız with 37% are at the top of the list of TV series that the participants of the research have been following carefully in the last year. Again, according to the results of the research, the first two characters that come to minds of the Turkish people when asked about the character they are most impressed with are “Safiye” from the Masumlar Apartmanı and “Sadi” from the Kırmızı Oda.

Increasing interest in Psychology-Themed TV series

Another important finding of the research is that the Turkish audience’s interest in psychology-focused TV series is increasing. 65% of the participants state that they try to have information on the subject by watching psychology-focused TV series. This trend is more dominant among married women and housewives, living in metropolises, who are members of the EU SES Group.

Research shows that 8 out of 10 viewers who watch psychology dramas have an effect on being more attentive to their children. Another striking factor in the results of the research is that the awareness of social violence, violence against women and violence against one’s cat has increased. 26% of those who watch psychology-themed TV series say that they started to talk about their problems by taking the initiative, rather than hiding / hiding their problems. Especially 10% of women living in the metropolis state that they started to receive psychological support after watching these TV series.
