The Turkish Detective series will also be broadcast on BBC
The Turkish Detective series continues to spread around the world. The BBC purchased the rights to broadcast the series to broadcast on BBC iPlayer and TV channels.
Set in modern-day Istanbul, the series stars Haluk Bilginer (Father), Ethan Kai (Killing Eve) and Yasemin Kay Allen (The Usual Suspects) and is produced by Ay Yapım and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
The eight-episode series, adapted from Barbara Nadel’s award-winning and best-selling Inspector Ikmen novel series, was broadcast on TV+ in our country in December.
Writer and executive producer Ben Schiffer said of the deal: “From the moment I opened Barbara Nadel’s novel, I fell in love with the unique, iconic character of Inspector Ikmen. Ikmen is a beacon of hope and humor in a dark and difficult world, and an emotionally charged mystery.” “I’m delighted that our series, which blends family drama, has found a home on the BBC.”
Sue Deeks, BBC Head of Program Acquisition, said: “The Turkish Detective not only delivers a compelling, multi-layered crime thriller, but is also set in stunning Istanbul, a vibrant contemporary city that reflects the cultural influences of a rich and diverse historical past – It’s a truly fascinating combination.”
The Turkish Detective was written and executive produced by Ben Schiffer (Skins) and directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). Kerem Çatay and Claire Sowerby-Sheppard are among the executive producers of the series. The Turkish Detective will begin airing on BBC iPlayer and TV channels later this year.
