What do you think of the premiere of ‘Amor y Traición’ on Telemundo this week?
I am so grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with Telemundo and Hispanic audiences in the US with my new project. It’s a great feeling to have the opportunity to reconnect with Telemundo’s Hispanic audiences. I had a great experience with my previous project ‘Hercai: Love and Vengeance’ and now I feel privileged to reconnect with my fans with a new project. I hope it will be successful and the public will like it.
Can you tell us a little about your character?
My character, Cemal, is an orphan who grew up in an orphanage. His childhood and youth were difficult, he tried to survive in a world of very rude men. He tries to earn money as a bus driver; He lives by his own rules and seems very free. Regarding his personality, he is afraid to make commitments, does not know what it is to live by certain rules, because he does not want to take the responsibility of connecting with something or someone. However, when love enters his life, these beliefs are put aside.
Akin, how do you find the success of Turkish TV series in recent years?
I think storytelling is a very universal thing; feelings and emotions are universal. What we produce resonates with Hispanic audiences, and I think one of the keys to our success is that there is a huge demand for our content as we find a common language. People, especially Latinos, feel identified with the stories we tell, which is great for actors.
Your Latin listeners love you, I want to know if you speak Spanish.
With the introduction of ‘Hercai: Amor y Venganza’ last year, I told everyone that I started learning Spanish, but I gave up. Now I’m on a new project, I’m constantly filming, I’m trying to focus on my characters and I don’t have much time to practice my Spanish. I took a break but I’ll be back!
Even if you don’t know much Spanish, what is your favorite word in this language?
I guess this would be it since my last two projects had the word ‘love’ in the title; “Love and Revenge” and “Love and Betrayal”.
Akin, your mother is a well-known actress in the entertainment world in Turkey, what’s the best advice she gave you?
That’s why he didn’t give me one specifically but he always made me feel strong with his love. It gave me the courage to be able to do new things, not be afraid to go on stage, and listen to my heart, and I am so grateful for that. Their behavior, the way they make me feel is the most valuable in my opinion; I am very grateful to my mother.
What do you think about being considered one of the most handsome men in the entertainment world?
I? (laughs) I’m not sure. It feels good, it’s an honor but sometimes you don’t know if you or your characters are handsome but either way it feels great!
