Turks Criticize Turkish TV Series, But Foreigners Like It Very Much
Turkish TV series are evaluated with ratings based on the viewing rates of domestic viewers. Rating evaluations made on the devices found in the homes of a certain audience are defined as a Turkish sample, and this is reflected in the success of the productions.
While productions with poor ratings bid farewell to the screen, those with good results continue on their way. However, we know that many TV series that are not given enough importance by domestic viewers in Turkey have achieved very successful sales figures abroad.
This situation creates a huge contradiction. Projects that domestic audiences do not like are followed with great admiration by foreigners. Television critic Sina Koloğlu also revealed this situation and attracted attention with his post on social media.
Sina Koloğlu drew attention to the contradiction by saying in her post, “We criticize, the world watches.”
Here is Sina Koloğlu’s message:
“TBI (Television Business International), one of the important publications of the TV world, published a commentary titled ‘The Moment of Growth in Turkish TV Series’. In the article, it was stated that ‘Turkish TV series have been one of the success stories of the distribution world in the last twenty years.
The article underlines that Turkish TV series revenues reached a record level with sales of 600 million dollars in 2022, according to ITO figures. ‘A large part of this success is attributed to key markets such as Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, South East Asia, India and the Middle East’.”
