Mert Firat spoke to Variety: “Turkish TV series are watched in more than 120 countries, we need their support”
Mert Firat, the United Nations Development Program’s Goodwill Ambassador for Turkey, spoke to Variety, one of the leading cinema and entertainment news sites in the USA. “We were campaigning for war-torn Ukraine, but now our Ukraine office is campaigning for us,” said Fırat, who took part in the devastating earthquake on February 6, where many people lost their lives, together with the Need Map, of which he is one of the founding partners.
“How much support do you get from the Turkish film and TV industry community?” “Actors, artists, writers and producers stopped working to support charity. The producers sent their self-catering caravans to us. Theaters have closed. Many of my fellow actors work with us to find solutions and send clothes and food in trucks. We share information through our website and people from different cities.” He supports us. We are trying to get more money and support from the volunteers.” he replied.
His response to “What can the international film and TV community do to help?” is “The creative industry can support us. Artists are sensitive people and they support us. Turkish TV series are watched in more than 120 countries and this can give us an extra advantage because the world knows our culture. They know us. Our mentalities are very similar. We need their support. We need our fellow actors and artists around the world to raise money to support our efforts.” it happened.
